Fukujuen – Kansho no Mukashi Matcha

20g Ceremonial-Grade Japanese Matcha Powder

Kansho no Mukashi (閑松の昔), meaning “Quiet Pine of the Past”, is a ceremonial-grade matcha crafted by Fukujuen, Kyoto’s historic tea house founded in 1790. With its calm strength and dignified depth, this blend reflects the stillness of ancient pines—bold yet composed, ideal for tea ceremonies and meditative practice.

Taste & Character

Kansho no Mukashi opens with a rich umami presence, rounded by refined sweetness. Its flavour carries earthy depth with subtle notes of roasted greens and a faint hint of cocoa. Balanced and lingering, it is especially suited for koicha (thick tea) but also rewarding as a deeper usucha.

Aroma

Grounded and serene, the aroma evokes shaded pine forests after rain—green, earthy, and slightly resinous. When whisked, it expands into a warm, steady fragrance that fills the room with quiet presence.

Texture & Finish

Stone-milled to ceremonial fineness, Kansho no Mukashi creates a dense, velvety crema. On the palate, it is thick and smooth, coating the tongue with graceful weight before fading into a long, harmonious finish.

Best Enjoyed For

  • Traditional tea ceremonies, especially koicha (thick tea)
  • Meditative tea sessions in calm, quiet settings
